Choosing without an occasion to guide you
Weddings and Eid tell you what to send. Everything else is judgement, and the judgement usually comes down to three questions.
How well do you know them? A box for your own family can be generous and plain. A box for someone you barely know needs to look considered, because presentation is doing the work that familiarity would otherwise do. Our Elegance and Celebration series exist for the second case.
How long before it gets opened? This is the question people skip and then regret. A box handed over at the door is a different problem from one left at a reception desk on a Thursday. If you cannot be sure, send halwa — habshi halwa, badam pak and kajoo pak keep for around a month unrefrigerated and are unbothered by waiting.
Do you know their tastes? If not, mixed is safer than a single item, and a sugar-free option covers the person nobody remembered to mention. Our dry fruit, fig and date halwa is organic and sugar-free.
What people send, and when
- Thank-you and hospitality — a mixed box in the 500g to 1kg range. Mix Mithai does this well: barfi, motichoor and besan ladoo, kaju katli, malai peda.
- Condolence — plainer is better. The halwas and simple barfi rather than anything decorative or brightly packaged.
- Hospital and recovery visits — things that keep, and that a family can put out for the stream of other visitors. Halwa again.
- New house or new job — somewhere to use the truffles, or the Dehli Barfi of pineapple, coconut and pistachio, which is the piece people ask about afterwards.
- Sending to another city — halwa, without exception.
Same day, more or less
Gifting is usually decided late. Most orders are ready within 24 hours, so a box remembered the night before is not a problem. Anything above roughly 500kg or with real customisation needs 48.
